PhD Success
The MTOUGH group are delighted to announce that one current member, Patricia (Trish) Jackman, has successfully defended her PhD thesis and completed all required minor corrections. Trish took previous MTOUGH research concerning the established relationship between mental toughness and dispositional flow (optimal performance state relating to an altered state of consciousness) and advanced knowledge using a mixed-method approach in her thesis. The work was supervised by Dr Lee Crust and Dr Christian Swann. Trish has already published a number of her studies in journals such as the International Journal of Sport Psychology and Psychology of Sport and Exercise. The findings of her work also showed that another performance state known as “Clutch” was more strongly associated with mental toughness than was flow. Trish and members of the MTOUGH group are currently working on additional papers than stemmed from her research. An excellent outcome and well deserved.
